Praise and Reward at Our Lady and St Chad Catholic Academy

Students are praised for their actions and behaviours that lead to academic progress and/or relate to the schools mission statement and values.

All staff have the option of recording a Praise Log on Arbor which is sent directly to their parents by email and on the Arbor app.  Logs are worth 5 Star Points and can be awarded for any of the following categories:

Effective use of Tier 3 vocabulary

Quality extended writing

Excellent answer to an exam question

Reading and comprehension

High level of engagement

Demonstration of KAGAN principles

Students can earn Star Award Certificates that are initially delivered through Arbor to their parents automatically as soon as they reach the milestones displayed below.  Those who achieve the Gold and Platinum milestones are invited to visit their year team to collect their blazer badge.  Physical certificates are allocated (the highest milestone reached at that point) at the end of each term during Praise Assemblies.

Please note that Arbor and the ability to automatically award Star Certificates was introduced in January 2023.  Therefore the milestones have been adjusted for terms 2 and 3 of 2022/2023.

Rewards

For those students that achieve the Star Certificate Milestones, rewards can also be earned.  These can be in the form of;

  • The Christmas prize draw (over £600 worth of technology awarded through a raffle)
  • Amazon Gift Vouchers delivered to students through their email account
  • Reading rewards through tokens that can be used in the library book vending machine
  • Curriculum based visits
  • End of year reward visits to a theme park or a cinema and bowling alley in July. This is awarded to all those who meet behaviour, attendance and punctuality criteria
