At Our Lady and St Chad Catholic Academy we are passionate about developing the whole child. The Duke of Edinburgh’s award is an additional way of doing that. Its well-established national program challenges students to commit to complete sporting activities, volunteering to help the community, learn a skill and complete a two-day expedition on foot with an overnight camp.

At OLSC we run a D of E training session every Wednesday evening during the year where we work on the skills students need to complete the award. We want to make D of E as cheap as possible in order to allow all students to access the award. The scheme costs just £24.00 to join which is the cost to us for a Bronze starter pack and also gets them onto the “eD of E” site which is an web site where they can upload evidence and track their progress through the award.

A Bronze award can be completed in 6 months however typically we find it takes a year to complete the award. Bronze is open to all students who are in year 9 or older.
So, what have you got to lose? Join us on a Wednesday evening from 3.30 to 4.30 in S2 to find out more and see if you have what it takes to- complete your Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s award. On completion students receive a certificate and badge. The badge may be worn on the blazer if students wish to show they have achieved the award.
