This is an exciting time for women’s football, with the Women’s World Cup highlighting the talents within the women’s game and establishing a legacy for young girl’s in England today. Our Lady and St Chad Academy provides students at post 16 level with the opportunity to take part in British College League football and also provides students with the chance to combine quality Football coaching with academic studies, in order to develop sporting skills further.
Academy students will study either a BTEC Level 3 in Sport, AS Physical Education, BTEC Level 3 Sports Science as well as being part of the Academy team.
By having the extra football training and playing opportunities, students can develop their knowledge and understanding of the sport, as well as developing skills to allow them to progress onto University or into women’s football scholarship.
Facilities and Football Kit
As a Sports College we have numerous training facilities available for the players to receive the best coaching and allow them to enjoy their experience with us. We have a state of the art 3G football pitch launching in September 2015. The facility will boast one full size adult pitch, one 9 v 9 pitch and three 5 a side pitches. All available for hire, see our Community Sport page (link). We also have a purpose built fitness suite with Technogym equipment (Academy players can use this facility to train in their own time), sports hall and gymnasium. PE classrooms are available for theory based activities. All students are expected to purchase an OLSC Sixth Sports Kit and Football Academy training and match-day kit; which include training jumper, t-shirt, shorts, socks, jacket and polo shirt for match-days.
As a specialist Sports Academy we aim to achieve success on and off the field:
- All students pass their A levels or BTEC Level 3 course with a merit or above.
- To develop students as players and coaches, and to encourage students to regularly attend football sessions within school and out of school time.
- To develop leadership and coaching skills by taking part in FA level qualified courses on site.
- Working with younger students at OLSC and within our Multi Academy to grow female footabllers from grassroots level.
